About me
My introduction to the piano was through traditional lessons from the age of 7.
My teacher, like many others, encouraged me to take graded exams. And so, as with so many young musicians, music became all about external rewards - praise from teachers/parents, certificates proclaiming 'you have reached level X at the piano'.
This generated anxiety in my playing. I was no longer able to enjoy the simple act of expressing myself though music. Music became a chore.
I persevered for many years, mainly to please others, but in the end I left formal lessons in favour of playing music that I could really connect to and express myself through.

I eventually found my way back to formal music education and completed my bachelor's degree in Music in Ireland in 2008.
I played as a session musician for many years in Ireland and in Europe accompanying singers and in various groups across may styles and genres.

I've been teaching others to play classical, jazz, pop and more for the last 20 years.
Having experienced the limitations of traditional methods of teaching myself I'm really passionate about helping other, regardless of age or ability, learn to express themselves through music.
